Canned Pineapple Market Size in Oman

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Omani canned pineapple market, when its value decreased by -19.2% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, enjoyed notable growth. Canned pineapple consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In 2022, overseas shipments of canned pineapples increased by 5.4% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, faced a significant contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 120% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, canned pineapple exports totaled $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 92%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Somalia (X tons) was the main destination for canned pineapple exports from Oman, with a 77% share of total exports. Moreover, canned pineapple exports to Somalia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Qatar (X kg), threefold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Somalia totaled -27.0%.

In value terms, the largest markets for canned pineapple exported from Oman were Somalia ($X) and Qatar ($X).

The average canned pineapple export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -4.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 72% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Somalia amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+18.7%).

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of canned pineapples decreased by -21.2% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 240% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, canned pineapple imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 193% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Thailand (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of canned pineapple imports to Oman, together accounting for 51% of total imports. Indonesia, Malaysia and Kenya lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 3.6%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of +42.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest canned pineapple suppliers to Oman were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Thailand ($X) and China ($X), together accounting for 55% of total imports. Indonesia, Malaysia and Kenya lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 3.5%.

Malaysia, with a CAGR of +25.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average canned pineapple import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 3.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 17%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
