In 2022, approx. X tons of carbides were imported into Oman; with an increase of 14% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, carbides imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight reduction. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of carbides to Oman, with a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, carbides imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Malaysia (X tons), with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +22.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+4.0% per year) and Malaysia (-16.0% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of carbides to Oman, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +23.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+4.2% per year) and Malaysia (-16.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average carbides import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 23% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 24%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
