Green Coffee Market Size in Oman

After two years of growth, the Omani green coffee market decreased by -8.5% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +75.7% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of coffee (green), when their volume decreased by -34% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 284% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, green coffee exports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 395% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Qatar (X tons) was the main destination for green coffee exports from Oman, with a 71% share of total exports. Moreover, green coffee exports to Qatar exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Yemen (X tons), fourfold. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Qatar stood at +18.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Yemen (+33.5% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-5.5% per year).

In value terms, Qatar ($X) remains the key foreign market for coffee (green) exports from Oman, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Yemen, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Qatar totaled +15.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+11.6% per year) and Yemen (+27.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average green coffee export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 3.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a slight expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 82% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+55.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of coffee (green), when their volume decreased by -4.3% to X tons. Overall, total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 62%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, green coffee imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +83.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of green coffee to Oman, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, green coffee imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), fourfold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United Arab Emirates stood at +30.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (-6.8% per year) and India (-6.7% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of coffee (green) to Oman, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 9.2% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United Arab Emirates stood at +27.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (-10.1% per year) and India (-7.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average green coffee import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -7.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 20%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the price for Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
