In 2022, the Omani pasta products market decreased by -8.5% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a significant expansion. Pasta products consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2022, shipments abroad of dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products decreased by -19.1% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 7,728% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pasta products exports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 7,137% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Kenya (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Yemen (X tons) were the main destinations of pasta products exports from Oman, with a combined 87% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Senegal (with a CAGR of +29.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, Senegal ($X), Kenya ($X) and Yemen ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for pasta products exported from Oman worldwide, with a combined 86% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 82% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mauritania (+56.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Oman

In 2022, approx. X tons of dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products were imported into Oman; shrinking by -8% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 95% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, pasta products imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +12.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 90%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Saudi Arabia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of pasta products to Oman, accounting for a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, pasta products imports from Saudi Arabia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), eightfold. Indonesia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Saudi Arabia totaled +32.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-11.2% per year) and Indonesia (+43.3% per year).

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products to Oman, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Saudi Arabia amounted to +25.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+23.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-13.4% per year).

In 2022, the average pasta products import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -1.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 8.5%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
