In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Omani fishing rod market, when its value decreased by -19.2% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, posted slight growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In 2021, shipments abroad of fishing rods and other line fishing tackle decreased by -27.2% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 555% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fishing rod exports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 596%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Mozambique (X tons) was the main destination for fishing rod exports from Oman, accounting for a 69% share of total exports. Moreover, fishing rod exports to Mozambique exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Iran (X kg), sixfold. Sweden (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Mozambique totaled -15.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iran (+14.8% per year) and Sweden (+111.8% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for fishing rod exported from Oman were Mozambique ($X), Sweden ($X) and Iran ($X), with a combined 91% share of total exports.

Sweden, with a CAGR of +130.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average fishing rod export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 5.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tanzania (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of fishing rods and other line fishing tackle decreased by -21.2% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 70%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, fishing rod imports shrank notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), China (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) were the main suppliers of fishing rod imports to Oman, together accounting for 83% of total imports. South Korea and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +83.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fishing rods and other line fishing tackle to Oman, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with an 8.9% share.
