Fructose Market Size in Oman

After two years of growth, the Omani fructose market decreased by -40.4% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, posted a resilient expansion. Fructose consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In 2021, the amount of fructose and fructose syrup exported from Oman contracted markedly to X tons, waning by -54.6% compared with the year before. Overall, exports faced a dramatic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 2,555% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fructose exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a sharp slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 2,315%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Yemen (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Somalia (X kg) were the main destinations of fructose exports from Oman, with a combined 99% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +19.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest markets for fructose exported from Oman were Yemen ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Somalia ($X), together accounting for 91% of total exports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 133% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+54.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of growth, overseas purchases of fructose and fructose syrup decreased by -39.1% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 323%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, fructose imports shrank notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 296%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

Saudi Arabia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of fructose imports to Oman, together comprising 71% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +43.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fructose and fructose syrup to Oman, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Mauritius, with a 5.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Saudi Arabia amounted to +61.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+11.0% per year) and Mauritius (+7.4% per year).

The average fructose import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -3.2% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, fructose import price increased by +49.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 44%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
