Yemen (X tons) was the main destination for gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle exports from Oman, accounting for a 52% share of total exports. Imports into Oman
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of gingerbread, sweet biscuits and waffles decreased by -0.5% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.
In value terms, gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle imports totaled $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 43%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) were the main suppliers of gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle imports to Oman, together accounting for 72% of total imports. India, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Italy, Russia, Malaysia, Pakistan and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +128.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of gingerbread, sweet biscuits and waffles to Oman, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 7.6% share.
