The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 149% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Pakistan (X tons) was the main destination for bovine and equine leather exports from Oman, with a 71% share of total exports. Moreover, bovine and equine leather exports to Pakistan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Yemen (X tons), with a 3.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Pakistan stood at +22.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+33.1% per year) and Yemen (0.0% per year).
In value terms, Pakistan ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and India ($X) constituted the largest markets for bovine and equine leather exported from Oman worldwide, with a combined 96% share of total exports.
Pakistan, with a CAGR of +34.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average bovine and equine leather export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. Imports into Oman
After three years of decline, overseas purchases of leather of bovine and equine animals increased by 39% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 108%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bovine and equine leather imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 46%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Thailand (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) were the main suppliers of bovine and equine leather imports to Oman, with a combined 59% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Lebanon (with a CAGR of +148.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of leather of bovine and equine animals to Oman, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lebanon ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 10% share.
