In value terms, marble and travertine exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 875% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Korea (X tons) was the main destination for marble and travertine exports from Oman, with a 79% share of total exports. Moreover, marble and travertine exports to South Korea exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, India (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Qatar (X tons), with a 3.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to South Korea stood at +140.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (-9.5% per year) and Qatar (+4.0% per year).
In value terms, South Korea ($X), India ($X) and Algeria ($X) were the largest markets for marble and travertine exported from Oman worldwide, together comprising 82% of total exports. China, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.
Among the main countries of destination, Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +331.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 36%. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+113.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Oman
In 2021, supplies from abroad of marble and travertine decreased by -10.6% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 75%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, marble and travertine imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -14.5% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Iran (X tons) constituted the largest marble and travertine supplier to Oman, accounting for a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, marble and travertine imports from Iran exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X tons), with a 3.2% share.
