In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of non-cellular polystyrene films, sheets, foil and strip, when their volume decreased by -0.9% to X tons. In general, exports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 1,194%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.
In value terms, non-cellular polystyrene film exports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 288% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of non-cellular polystyrene film exports from Oman, with a combined 90% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +364.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Oman
In 2022, supplies from abroad of non-cellular polystyrene films, sheets, foil and strip decreased by -14.4% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 107% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-cellular polystyrene film imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 166% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of non-cellular polystyrene film to Oman, with a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, non-cellular polystyrene film imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X tons), with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to +8.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+114.4% per year) and China (+45.2% per year).
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-cellular polystyrene films, sheets, foil and strip to Oman, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United Arab Emirates totaled +22.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+91.6% per year) and China (+54.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average non-cellular polystyrene film import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 5.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a moderate increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 45%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
