The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-wheat flour exports fell notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 882%. Somalia (X tons) was the main destination for non-wheat flour exports from Oman, with a 62% share of total exports. Moreover, non-wheat flour exports to Somalia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Yemen (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Somalia totaled +1.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Yemen (-14.9% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-5.7% per year).

In value terms, Somalia ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-wheat flours exports from Oman, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Yemen, with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Somalia amounted to -1.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-16.0% per year) and Yemen (-22.9% per year).

The average non-wheat flour export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 66% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of non-wheat flours increased by 39% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 89%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-wheat flour imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed temperate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 97%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of non-wheat flour to Oman, with a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, non-wheat flour imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 6.1% share.
