In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in the Omani orange market, when its value decreased by -12% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded strong growth. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In 2022, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of oranges, when their volume decreased by -10.8% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 2,313%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, orange exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 2,126% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
Exports by Country
Qatar (X tons) was the main destination for orange exports from Oman, accounting for a 93% share of total exports. Moreover, orange exports to Qatar exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Yemen (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Qatar amounted to +62.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Yemen (+15.7% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-11.5% per year).
In value terms, Qatar ($X) remains the key foreign market for oranges exports from Oman, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 3.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Qatar stood at +57.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (-11.0% per year) and Yemen (+10.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average orange export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 129% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Oman
After five years of growth, supplies from abroad of oranges decreased by -7.5% to X tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.5% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 17%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, orange imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Egypt (X tons) constituted the largest orange supplier to Oman, with a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, orange imports from Egypt exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X tons), fivefold. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Egypt stood at +8.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-3.1% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-3.6% per year).
In value terms, Egypt ($X) constituted the largest supplier of oranges to Oman, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Egypt amounted to +14.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+4.4% per year) and South Africa (+0.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average orange import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -6.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lebanon (+21.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
