Imports into Oman
For the third year in a row, Oman recorded decline in purchases abroad of pears and quinces, which decreased by -43.6% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 40%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, pears and quinces imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 57%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) were the main suppliers of pears and quinces imports to Oman, with a combined 87% share of total imports. Iran, Syrian Arab Republic, Spain and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.3%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +84.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pears and quinces to Oman, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lebanon ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 20% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United Arab Emirates totaled +11.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lebanon (+37.7% per year) and South Africa (-9.8% per year).

Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 47% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
