From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, pistachio exports reached $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a slight downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 318% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main destination for pistachio exports from Oman, accounting for a 54% share of total exports. Moreover, pistachio exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Saudi Arabia (X kg), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Qatar (X kg), with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United Arab Emirates totaled +6.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+134.3% per year) and Qatar (-16.3% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Qatar ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for pistachio exported from Oman worldwide, with a combined 100% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +64.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 129% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, pistachio imports fell markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a measured expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 55%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of pistachio to Oman, with a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, pistachio imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to -2.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+20.7% per year) and Iran (+57.7% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pistachios to Oman, comprising 86% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with an 8.1% share of total imports.

Over the period under review, import price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, pistachio import price increased by +61.4% against 2020 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
