For the sixth year in a row, the Omani plastic household ware market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 7.5% to $X in 2021. Overall, the total consumption indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +40.3% against 2014 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, shipments abroad of plastics household articles and toilet articles was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plastic household ware exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 57%. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Yemen (X tons), Somalia (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic household ware exports from Oman, with a combined 72% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Somalia (with a CAGR of +105.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for plastic household ware exported from Oman were Qatar ($X), Yemen ($X) and Somalia ($X), with a combined 64% share of total exports.
Somalia, with a CAGR of +98.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average plastic household ware export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -12.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+11.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Oman
In 2021, the amount of plastics household articles and toilet articles imported into Oman rose significantly to X tons, increasing by 6.3% against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, plastic household ware imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +42.6% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest plastic household ware supplier to Oman, accounting for a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic household ware imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia (X tons), with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United Arab Emirates totaled +1.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+10.9% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+2.3% per year).
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of plastics household articles and toilet articles to Oman, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 5.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United Arab Emirates stood at +9.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+7.9% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+5.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average plastic household ware import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 22% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
