Sweet biscuit exports from Oman dropped rapidly to X tons in 2021, which is down by -15.6% on the previous year. Overall, total exports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +3.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 45%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sweet biscuit exports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Yemen (X tons) was the main destination for sweet biscuit exports from Oman, accounting for a 61% share of total exports. Moreover, sweet biscuit exports to Yemen exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), fourfold. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Yemen totaled +22.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-0.6% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-8.7% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for sweet biscuit exported from Oman were Yemen ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), together comprising 69% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Yemen, with a CAGR of +23.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average sweet biscuit export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tanzania (+11.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Oman
In 2021, purchases abroad of sweet biscuits decreased by -12.1% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 59%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, sweet biscuit imports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
Imports by Country
Turkey (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) were the main suppliers of sweet biscuit imports to Oman, together accounting for 68% of total imports. These countries were followed by India, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the UK, which together accounted for a further 22%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +126.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Egypt ($X) were the largest sweet biscuit suppliers to Oman, together accounting for 57% of total imports. These countries were followed by Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Italy, India, the UK, Malaysia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which together accounted for a further 31%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Bahrain, with a CAGR of +135.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average sweet biscuit import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 5.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 15% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Sri Lanka ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
