Basic Dye Market Size in Pakistan

For the third year in a row, the Pakistani basic dye market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -14% to $X in 2021. In general, the total consumption indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -25.7% against 2018 indices. Basic dye consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Basic dye exports from Pakistan reduced dramatically to X tons in 2021, shrinking by -44.6% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 503%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, basic dye exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 423%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Nigeria (X tons), the United States (X kg) and Bangladesh (X kg) were the main destinations of basic dye exports from Pakistan, together accounting for 86% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Singapore (with a CAGR of +163.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for basic dyes and preparations based thereon exports from Pakistan, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nigeria ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States totaled +53.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Nigeria (+9.2% per year) and Singapore (+118.5% per year).

In 2021, the average basic dye export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -47.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 53% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (-0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Pakistan

For the third consecutive year, Pakistan recorded decline in purchases abroad of basic dyes and preparations based thereon, which decreased by -38% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports saw a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, basic dye imports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -12.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 77%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons), India (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) were the main suppliers of basic dye imports to Pakistan, together accounting for 95% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +28.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of basic dyes and preparations based thereon to Pakistan, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +5.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+1.4% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+33.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average basic dye import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 59% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, basic dye import price increased by +95.9% against 2015 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
