Imports into Pakistan
In 2021, overseas purchases of builders' joinery and carpentry of wood increased by 56% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, wooden joinery and carpentry imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 83%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest wooden joinery and carpentry supplier to Pakistan, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, wooden joinery and carpentry imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), ninefold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7% share.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of builders' joinery and carpentry of wood to Pakistan, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 9.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +14.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+100.0% per year) and Malaysia (+1.4% per year).
