Carbonate Market Size in Pakistan

The Pakistani carbonate market rose modestly to $X in 2021, picking up by 3.2% against the previous year. In 2021, approx. X tons of carbonates and peroxocarbonates were exported from Pakistan; increasing by 73% on the year before. Overall, exports saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 122%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Bangladesh (X tons) was the main destination for carbonate exports from Pakistan, with a 61% share of total exports. Afghanistan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.1% share.

In value terms, Bangladesh ($X) remains the key foreign market for carbonates and peroxocarbonates exports from Pakistan, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 9.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Bangladesh amounted to +61.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sri Lanka (+1,262.7% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+31.2% per year).

The average carbonate export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 30%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. Imports into Pakistan

In 2021, purchases abroad of carbonates and peroxocarbonates was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2012, thus ending a eight-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep reduction. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, carbonate imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

China (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) were the main suppliers of carbonate imports to Pakistan, together accounting for 77% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +65.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, China ($X), Turkey ($X) and Kenya ($X) appeared to be the largest carbonate suppliers to Pakistan, with a combined 76% share of total imports.

The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
