The Pakistani cherry and sour cherry market shrank modestly to $X in 2022, which is down by -2.1% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Cherry and sour cherry exports from Pakistan declined rapidly to X tons in 2022, falling by -83.5% on the year before. Overall, exports faced a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 599% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cherry and sour cherry exports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports faced a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 653%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Saudi Arabia (X kg) was the main destination for cherry and sour cherry exports from Pakistan, with a 58% share of total exports. Moreover, cherry and sour cherry exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X kg), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Malaysia (X kg), with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Saudi Arabia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-32.3% per year) and Malaysia (-23.5% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for cherry and sour cherry exported from Pakistan were Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Malaysia ($X), with a combined 72% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of -16.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

After two years of growth, overseas purchases of cherries and sour cherries decreased by -1.7% to X tons in 2019. In general, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 117%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

In value terms, cherry and sour cherry imports skyrocketed to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 109% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2019 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2019, Afghanistan (X tons) was the main supplier of cherry and sour cherry to Pakistan, with a approx. 99.9% share of total imports.
