In 2021, the Pakistani chlorides market decreased by -12.5% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw temperate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 206%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chlorides exports declined significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 155%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main destination for chlorides exports from Pakistan, accounting for a 62% share of total exports. Moreover, chlorides exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Oman (X tons), fourfold. Mozambique (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United Arab Emirates was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (+0.7% per year) and Mozambique (+63.7% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the key foreign market for chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) exports from Pakistan, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Oman ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Mozambique, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the United Arab Emirates totaled -8.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (-6.6% per year) and Mozambique (+78.8% per year).

The average chlorides export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt shrinkage. Chlorides imports into Pakistan expanded remarkably to X tons in 2021, increasing by 9.2% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports enjoyed a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chlorides imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 83% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of chlorides to Pakistan, with a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, chlorides imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Oman (X tons), threefold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +1.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Oman (0.0% per year) and Germany (-7.8% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) to Pakistan, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 7.7% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 5.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +6.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-3.7% per year) and the Czech Republic (+7.4% per year).

Based on 2021 figures, chlorides import price decreased by -34.3% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
