Canada (X kg) was the main destination for green coffee exports from Pakistan, accounting for a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, green coffee exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belgium (X kg), twofold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Canada stood at +20.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (0.0% per year) and Germany (0.0% per year).

In value terms, Canada ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for coffee (green) exports from Pakistan, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.

Imports into Pakistan

Green coffee imports into Pakistan declined dramatically to X tons in 2022, reducing by -28% against 2021. Overall, imports saw a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 935%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, green coffee imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 732%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Rwanda (X tons) was the main green coffee supplier to Pakistan, accounting for a 91% share of total imports. Moreover, green coffee imports from Rwanda exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Tanzania (X kg), more than tenfold. Australia (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 0.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Rwanda totaled +470.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tanzania (-24.0% per year) and Australia (-37.2% per year).

In value terms, Rwanda ($X) constituted the largest supplier of coffee (green) to Pakistan, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tanzania ($X), with a 3% share of total imports. It was followed by Australia, with a 2.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Rwanda amounted to +444.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tanzania (+0.9% per year) and Australia (-24.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average green coffee import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 9.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 66%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the price for Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+32.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
