Flax Fiber Market Size in Pakistan

After two years of growth, the Pakistani flax fiber market decreased by -17.5% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, enjoyed significant growth. Flax fiber consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 191%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main destination for flax fiber exports from Pakistan, with a 95% share of total exports. Moreover, flax fiber exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United Arab Emirates was relatively modest.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the largest markets for flax fiber exported from Pakistan worldwide.

In 2021, the average flax fiber export price amounted to $X per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, the export price saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 78%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+63.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of flax fiber, when their volume decreased by -13% to X tons. In general, imports, however, saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 98%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, flax fiber imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 123% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Lithuania (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) were the main suppliers of flax fiber imports to Pakistan, with a combined 80% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Egypt (with a CAGR of +52.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Lithuania ($X), Belgium ($X) and Egypt ($X) were the largest flax fiber suppliers to Pakistan, with a combined 78% share of total imports.

Egypt, with a CAGR of +83.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average flax fiber import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -5.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+38.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
