In 2021, the Pakistani fungicide and bactericide market decreased by -8.4% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, recorded a strong increase. Fungicide and bactericide consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Exports from Pakistan

In 2021, overseas shipments of fungicides, bactericides and seed treatments decreased by -32.4% to X tons, falling for the sixth year in a row after four years of growth. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 591%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fungicide and bactericide exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 667%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Uzbekistan (X tons) was the main destination for fungicide and bactericide exports from Pakistan, accounting for a 93% share of total exports. Moreover, fungicide and bactericide exports to Uzbekistan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tunisia (X kg), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Uzbekistan stood at +24.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tunisia (-4.3% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+24.1% per year).

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the key foreign market for fungicides, bactericides and seed treatments exports from Pakistan, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 9.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Uzbekistan totaled +24.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+26.9% per year) and Tunisia (-10.1% per year).

The average fungicide and bactericide export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -4.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Fungicide and bactericide imports into Pakistan soared to X tons in 2021, rising by 17% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fungicide and bactericide imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +51.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the price for Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
