After two years of decline, the Pakistani wire and cable market increased by 96% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption continues to indicate resilient growth. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the amount of insulated wire and cable exported from Pakistan contracted dramatically to X tons, waning by -31.3% on the previous year. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 107% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wire and cable exports fell remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 112%. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Afghanistan (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) were the main destinations of wire and cable exports from Pakistan, with a combined 55% share of total exports. Qatar, Romania, the United Arab Emirates and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +232.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mozambique ($X), the UK ($X) and Qatar ($X) were the largest markets for wire and cable exported from Pakistan worldwide, with a combined 54% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Afghanistan, Romania, the United States and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Among the main countries of destination, Romania, with a CAGR of +129.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average wire and cable export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -7.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 28% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Afghanistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of insulated wire and cable were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports posted a perceptible increase. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wire and cable imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of wire and cable to Pakistan, accounting for a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, wire and cable imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), more than tenfold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.6% share.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of insulated wire and cable to Pakistan, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 6% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 3.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +11.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+12.5% per year) and Japan (+4.8% per year).
