Paper Label Market Size in Pakistan

In 2021, the Pakistani paper label market increased by 7.9% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, the total consumption indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -13.5% against 2018 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Paper Label Production in Pakistan

In value terms, paper label production rose rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, the total production indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -13.8% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 31%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Pakistan

In 2021, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of labels of paper or paperboard, when their volume increased by 45% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 46%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, paper label exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United States (X tons), the UK (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main destinations of paper label exports from Pakistan, together accounting for 57% of total exports. These countries were followed by Djibouti, Jordan, Qatar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Germany, Vietnam, Madagascar, Spain and Canada, which together accounted for a further 33%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +63.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X), the UK ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for paper label exported from Pakistan worldwide, with a combined 56% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Jordan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Djibouti, Qatar, Vietnam, Germany, Madagascar, Canada and Spain, which together accounted for a further 35%.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +57.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average paper label export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -22.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell significantly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Pakistan

In 2021, supplies from abroad of labels of paper or paperboard increased by 274% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt descent. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of paper label to Pakistan, with a 42% share of total imports. Moreover, paper label imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold. The UK (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to +8.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-8.0% per year) and the UK (+13.9% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), the UK ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the largest paper label suppliers to Pakistan, together accounting for 63% of total imports. Hong Kong SAR, Bahrain, Germany, Thailand, Sri Lanka, the United States and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Bahrain, with a CAGR of +43.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average paper label import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -59.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 221%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
