In value terms, bovine and equine leather exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep reduction. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Italy (X tons), China (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) were the main destinations of bovine and equine leather exports from Pakistan, together comprising 52% of total exports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Cambodia, Spain, South Africa, Portugal, Turkey, South Korea and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +5.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the largest markets for bovine and equine leather exported from Pakistan were Italy ($X), China ($X) and Vietnam ($X), with a combined 51% share of total exports. Hong Kong SAR, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Spain, Cambodia, South Africa, Portugal, Turkey, South Korea and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Portugal, with a CAGR of +8.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average bovine and equine leather export price amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Spain ($X per ton) and Indonesia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) and Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Leather of Bovine and Equine Animals
Imports into Pakistan
In 2021, the amount of leather of bovine and equine animals imported into Pakistan fell to X tons, shrinking by -7.8% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 31%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bovine and equine leather imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of bovine and equine leather imports to Pakistan, together accounting for 28% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +93.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest bovine and equine leather suppliers to Pakistan were Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), Thailand ($X) and South Korea ($X), together comprising 62% of total imports.
