Linseed Market Size in Pakistan

In 2022, the Pakistani linseed market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. Linseed consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Linseed Production in Pakistan

In value terms, linseed production expanded to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate pronounced growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the production volume increased by 259% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the average yield of linseed in Pakistan contracted slightly to X kg per ha, flattening at the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, the yield, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 1.7%. The linseed yield peaked at X kg per ha in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the yield failed to regain momentum. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2022, the harvested area of linseed in Pakistan was estimated at X ha, growing by 1.5% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, the harvested area, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the harvested area increased by 5% against the previous year. As a result, the harvested area reached the peak level of X ha. Exports from Pakistan

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of linseed decreased by -14.1% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 1,055% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, linseed exports contracted significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 529% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Jordan (X tons) was the main destination for linseed exports from Pakistan, with a 97% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada (X tons), with a 3% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Jordan stood at +21.4%.

In value terms, Jordan ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for linseed exports from Pakistan, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($X), with a 2.2% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Jordan totaled +12.9%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average linseed export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -5.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 88% against the previous year. In 2022, approx. X tons of linseed were imported into Pakistan; waning by -12.6% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 2,006% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, linseed imports totaled $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 2,134% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X tons) was the main linseed supplier to Pakistan, with a 91% share of total imports. Moreover, linseed imports from Kazakhstan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Canada (X tons), more than tenfold. India (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Kazakhstan was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Canada (-12.0% per year) and India (-14.1% per year).

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constituted the largest supplier of linseed to Pakistan, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($X), with a 6.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 0.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Kazakhstan was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Canada (-9.3% per year) and Russia (-39.3% per year).

In 2022, the average linseed import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw moderate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average import price increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
