Exports from Pakistan
In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts, when their volume decreased by -58.1% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 470% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, nail and bolt exports contracted notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a slight increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 188% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell significantly in the following year.

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for nail and bolt exports from Pakistan, with a 42% share of total exports. Moreover, nail and bolt exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by France (X tons), with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States amounted to +61.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+202.9% per year) and France (+107.0% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts exports from Pakistan, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to +49.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+147.0% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-4.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average nail and bolt export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 30% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 47%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+18.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Pakistan
In 2021, purchases abroad of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts increased by 24% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after four years of decline. In general, imports saw a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 75% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, nail and bolt imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of nail and bolt to Pakistan, with a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, nail and bolt imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), ninefold. Japan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +8.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+9.0% per year) and Japan (+1.7% per year).

The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with an 8.9% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +5.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+10.7% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+6.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average nail and bolt import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 79%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
