Soft Drink Market Size in Pakistan
After three years of growth, the Pakistani soft drink market decreased by -8.1% to $X in 2021. Overall, the total consumption indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine years. In value terms, soft drink production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, the total production indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +24.7% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Exports from Pakistan
In 2021, the amount of soft drinks exported from Pakistan skyrocketed to X litres, picking up by 174% on 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a precipitous curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 174% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X litres in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, soft drink exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a sharp reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 183%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Afghanistan (X litres), the United States (X litres) and Greece (X litres) were the main destinations of soft drink exports from Pakistan, together accounting for 78% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Greece (with a CAGR of +63.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Afghanistan ($X), the United States ($X) and Greece ($X) were the largest markets for soft drink exported from Pakistan worldwide, together accounting for 80% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Greece, with a CAGR of +64.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average soft drink export price stood at $X per litre in 2021, waning by -12.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, soft drink export price decreased by -14.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 19% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per litre in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Libya (+20.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Soft Drink Imports
Imports into Pakistan
In 2021, imports of soft drinks into Pakistan declined to X litres, which is down by -2.8% against 2020. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X litres. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, soft drink imports reduced modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X litres), Austria (X litres) and Thailand (X litres) were the main suppliers of soft drink imports to Pakistan, together accounting for 85% of total imports. Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Bangladesh, the Netherlands and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.3%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in the Philippines (with a CAGR of +62.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Austria ($X) and Thailand ($X) appeared to be the largest soft drink suppliers to Pakistan, with a combined 87% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, the Netherlands and the UK, which together accounted for a further 7.4%.
The Philippines, with a CAGR of +76.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average soft drink import price amounted to $X per litre, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 30%. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per litre), while the price for Bangladesh ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
