Non-Medical X-Ray Market Size in Pakistan

In 2021, the Pakistani non-medical x-ray market was finally on the rise to reach $X after three years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, saw a perceptible contraction. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, shipments abroad of non-medical x-rays decreased by -43% to X kg for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 1,273%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, non-medical x-ray exports shrank notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 1,382%. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

China (X kg) was the main destination for non-medical x-ray exports from Pakistan, with a 74% share of total exports. Moreover, non-medical x-ray exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X kg), fivefold. The Netherlands (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to China stood at +95.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+52.8% per year) and the Netherlands (+49.8% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-medical x-rays exports from Pakistan, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to China stood at +85.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+40.9% per year) and the Netherlands (+46.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average non-medical x-ray export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -9.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 21%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Pakistan

In 2021, the amount of non-medical x-rays imported into Pakistan surged to X tons, rising by 40% against the year before. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-medical x-ray imports shrank to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-medical x-ray imports to Pakistan, together comprising 32% of total imports. Italy, France, Russia, the United States, Malaysia, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +33.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the largest non-medical x-ray suppliers to Pakistan, together comprising 43% of total imports. These countries were followed by France, China, the United States, Turkey, Russia, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Spain, which together accounted for a further 36%.

France, with a CAGR of +41.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average non-medical x-ray import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -30.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
