Oman (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Bangladesh (X units) were the main destinations of non-numerically controlled lathe exports from Pakistan, with a combined 89% share of total exports.

In 2021, purchases abroad of non-numerically controlled horizontal lathes, for removing metal was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 125%. Imports peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-numerically controlled lathe imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 104%. Over the period under review, non-numerically controlled laimports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of non-numerically controlled lathe to Pakistan, accounting for a 34% share of total imports. Moreover, non-numerically controlled lathe imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X units), twofold. Hong Kong SAR (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +11.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (-8.8% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-5.3% per year).
In value terms, China ($X), the UK ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest non-numerically controlled lathe suppliers to Pakistan, with a combined 60% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Japan, Hong Kong SAR, the United States, Taiwan (Chinese), South Korea, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 25%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Japan, with a CAGR of +35.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average non-numerically controlled lathe import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-numerically controlled lathe import price increased by +59.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 92% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
