The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 522% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Egypt (X units) was the main destination for drawing chalk exports from Pakistan, accounting for a 43% share of total exports. Moreover, drawing chalk exports to Egypt exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mozambique (X units), threefold. Saudi Arabia (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Egypt stood at -41.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mozambique (-18.0% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-29.1% per year).

In value terms, Egypt ($X) remains the key foreign market for pastels, drawing charcoals, writing or drawing chalks exports from Pakistan, comprising 35% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Egypt amounted to -36.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-34.9% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-13.8% per year).

The average drawing chalk export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -10.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 50%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, drawing chalk imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 64%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest drawing chalk supplier to Pakistan, accounting for a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, drawing chalk imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China was relatively modest.
