Polyamide Market Size in Pakistan

The Pakistani polyamide market surged to $X in 2021, increasing by 43% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). After three years of growth, shipments abroad of polyamides (in primary forms) decreased by -27.6% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 1,114%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, polyamide exports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 749% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China (X tons) was the main destination for polyamide exports from Pakistan, accounting for a 39% share of total exports. Moreover, polyamide exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hong Kong SAR (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Afghanistan (X tons), with a 14% share.

From 2013 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to China amounted to +50.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (0.0% per year) and Afghanistan (0.0% per year).

In value terms, the UK ($X), China ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X) were the largest markets for polyamide exported from Pakistan worldwide, with a combined 74% share of total exports. Afghanistan, Malaysia and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, South Korea, with a CAGR of +145.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average polyamide export price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 86%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (-5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of polyamides (in primary forms) increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the fifth consecutive year after four years of decline. Overall, imports saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, polyamide imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of polyamide to Pakistan, with a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, polyamide imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), with a 5.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +8.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+6.1% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.4% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of polyamides (in primary forms) to Pakistan, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +10.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+3.6% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+8.9% per year).

The average polyamide import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 48% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
