In general, exports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 89% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, sauce and seasoning exports contracted slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 71%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Afghanistan (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Canada (X tons) were the main destinations of sauce and seasoning exports from Pakistan, together comprising 50% of total exports. These countries were followed by the United Arab Emirates, the UK, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Iraq and Kuwait, which together accounted for a further 34%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +593.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for sauce and seasoning exported from Pakistan were the United States ($X), Canada ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together comprising 46% of total exports. Afghanistan, the UK, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Iraq and Kuwait lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

In 2021, the average sauce and seasoning export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 5.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 25% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Afghanistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Pakistan

In 2021, supplies from abroad of sauces and seasonings was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports posted a resilient expansion. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sauce and seasoning imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), the United States (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of sauce and seasoning imports to Pakistan, with a combined 56% share of total imports. Thailand, South Africa, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +50.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sauces and seasonings to Pakistan, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United Arab Emirates amounted to +8.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+17.5% per year) and the United States (+8.8% per year).

The average sauce and seasoning import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -12.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Malaysia ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) and Indonesia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
