Vitamin Market Size in Pakistan
The Pakistani vitamin market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -19.9% against 2018 indices. After two years of growth, overseas shipments of provitamins and vitamins decreased by -64.9% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 703%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell sharply in the following year.
In value terms, vitamin exports plummeted to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 760%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
Exports by Country
Kyrgyzstan (X tons) was the main destination for vitamin exports from Pakistan, with a 65% share of total exports. Moreover, vitamin exports to Kyrgyzstan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Uzbekistan (X tons), threefold. Sri Lanka (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Kyrgyzstan stood at +257.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (-81.7% per year) and Sri Lanka (+34.8% per year).
In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for provitamins and vitamins exports from Pakistan, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Kyrgyzstan totaled +353.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (-69.1% per year) and Tajikistan (+39.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average vitamin export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 50% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 171% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tajikistan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Djibouti ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+69.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Pakistan
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of provitamins and vitamins, when their volume increased by 17% to X tons. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, vitamin imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -17.8% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of vitamin to Pakistan, accounting for a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, vitamin imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Switzerland (X tons), with a 7.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +2.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+0.8% per year) and Switzerland (+5.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of provitamins and vitamins to Pakistan, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Switzerland, with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +4.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+2.2% per year) and Switzerland (+9.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average vitamin import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -5.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 12%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
