The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 412%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
In value terms, rice bran exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 358% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for rice bran exports from Pakistan, with a 66% share of total exports. Moreover, rice bran exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Vietnam (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X tons), with a 7.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Netherlands stood at +107.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+20.1% per year) and Italy (+47.0% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for rice bran exported from Pakistan were the Netherlands ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Spain ($X), together accounting for 51% of total exports. Saudi Arabia, Italy, Norway, Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.
Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +986.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average rice bran export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, rice bran export price increased by +55.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 60% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+76.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Pakistan
Rice bran imports into Pakistan soared to X tons in 2021, rising by 23% on the previous year. Overall, imports recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 584% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rice bran imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 508%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Mozambique (X tons) constituted the largest rice bran supplier to Pakistan, with a 84% share of total imports. Moreover, rice bran imports from Mozambique exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), sixfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Mozambique amounted to +50.5%.
In value terms, Mozambique ($X) constituted the largest supplier of rice bran to Pakistan, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 10% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Mozambique totaled +51.4%.
Import Prices by Country
The average rice bran import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 120% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a prominent increase. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for Mozambique stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+14.4%).
