Television Receiver Market Size in Pakistan

The Pakistani television receiver market fell slightly to $X in 2022, declining by -2.1% against the previous year. Overall, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, overseas shipments of television receivers decreased by -56.1% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 3,261% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, television receiver exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 2,875%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

China (X units), Belgium (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units) were the main destinations of television receiver exports from Pakistan, with a combined 71% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +103.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for television receiver exported from Pakistan were China ($X), Norway ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 81% share of total exports.

The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Pakistan

In 2022, after five years of decline, there was growth in purchases abroad of television receivers, when their volume increased by 3.8% to X units. Overall, imports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 177% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, television receiver imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 312% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of television receiver to Pakistan, accounting for a 90% share of total imports. Moreover, television receiver imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X units), more than tenfold. The United Arab Emirates (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +18.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+55.9% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+0.4% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of television receivers to Pakistan, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 6.7% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +30.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+71.8% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+10.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average television receiver import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -28.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 70% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then declined markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+22.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
