The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Canada (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of tomato puree exports from Pakistan, with a combined 51% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia, the UK, France and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, the amount of tomato puree and paste imported into Pakistan contracted remarkably to X tons, waning by -19.6% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 162% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, tomato puree imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 110%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) was the main supplier of tomato puree to Pakistan, with a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, tomato puree imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +23.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+97.6% per year) and the United States (-5.4% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tomato puree and paste to Pakistan, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 4.9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +19.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+94.8% per year) and the United States (-3.9% per year).
