Man-Made Filament Fabric Market Size in Pakistan
The Pakistani man-made filament fabric market contracted to $X in 2021, falling by -12.2% against the previous year. Overall, the total consumption indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +14.5% against 2019 indices. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then shrank in the following year.
Man-Made Filament Fabric Production in Pakistan
In value terms, man-made filament fabric production shrank to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, the total production indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +15.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 31%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2021, exports of woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers from Pakistan surged to X tons, increasing by 38% compared with the year before. In general, exports, however, saw a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, man-made filament fabric exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Ukraine (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of man-made filament fabric exports from Pakistan, together comprising 69% of total exports. South Africa, the UK, Argentina, Colombia, Portugal, Germany, Chile, Russia, the Netherlands and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 86%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +9.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Ukraine ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for man-made filament fabric exported from Pakistan worldwide, together accounting for 25% of total exports. The UK, South Africa, the Netherlands, Germany, Argentina, Portugal, Belgium, Colombia, Chile and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.
Among the main countries of destination, Portugal, with a CAGR of +13.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average man-made filament fabric export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, flattening at the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Man-Made Filament Fabric Imports
Imports into Pakistan
In 2021, overseas purchases of woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 172%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, man-made filament fabric imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 141% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) was the main supplier of man-made filament fabric to Pakistan, with a 171% share of total imports. Moreover, man-made filament fabric imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Saudi Arabia (X tons), fivefold. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at -16.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (+7.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-23.0% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers to Pakistan, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 3.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 2.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled -16.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-25.8% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-14.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average man-made filament fabric import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -10.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
