Over the period under review, exports, however, showed moderate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 254% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ceramic statuette exports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 369% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Colombia (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) were the main destinations of ceramic statuette exports from Panama, together accounting for 39% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Mexico (with a CAGR of +42.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Colombia ($X), the Dominican Republic ($X) and Mexico ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for ceramic statuette exported from Panama worldwide, together comprising 39% of total exports.

Mexico, with a CAGR of +45.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average ceramic statuette export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -1.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 32%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to the United States ($X per ton) and Mexico ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to El Salvador ($X per ton) and Venezuela ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Panama

In 2022, supplies from abroad of ceramic statuettes and other ornamental articles was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 113%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic statuette imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep slump. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest ceramic statuette supplier to Panama, with a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, ceramic statuette imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Free Zones (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United States (X tons), with a 4.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at -11.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Free Zones (+55.8% per year) and the United States (+1.2% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of ceramic statuettes and other ornamental articles to Panama, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Free Zones ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to -7.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Free Zones (+64.0% per year) and the United States (+4.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average ceramic statuette import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 50% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ceramic statuette import price increased by +102.2% against 2017 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nicaragua (+46.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
