Argentina (X units) was the main destination for exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Paraguay, accounting for a 65% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers to Argentina exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bolivia (X units), threefold. Chile (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.6% share.

Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 52%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Brazil (X units) constituted the largest supplier of aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container to Paraguay, with a 87% share of total imports. The average import price for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 1.6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 33% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per unit), while the price for Chile ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
