In value terms, sawnwood (non-coniferous) exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

China (X cubic meters), Uruguay (X cubic meters) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of sawnwood (non-coniferous) exports from Paraguay, with a combined 66% share of total exports. Brazil, Argentina, the United States and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +67.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of sawnwood (non-coniferous) decreased by -14.5% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, sawnwood (non-coniferous) imports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 37%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In 2022, Bolivia (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of sawnwood (non-coniferous) to Paraguay, with a 81% share of total imports. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Bolivia stood at +1.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (0.0% per year) and Uruguay (+10.4% per year).

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Argentina ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
