Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 356% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 278%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Bolivia (X tons) was the main destination for artificial and colloidal graphite exports from Peru, accounting for a 91% share of total exports. Moreover, artificial and colloidal graphite exports to Bolivia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ecuador (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Bolivia totaled +74.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (+6.4% per year) and Colombia (+4.7% per year).

In value terms, Bolivia ($X) remains the key foreign market for artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations exports from Peru, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ecuador ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Bolivia totaled +47.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (+1.9% per year) and Colombia (-3.3% per year).

In general, total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of artificial and colloidal graphite imports to Peru, together comprising 75% of total imports. These countries were followed by Canada, Ecuador, Malaysia and Colombia, which together accounted for a further 18%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Colombia (with a CAGR of +75.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
