In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations, when their volume increased by 143% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 356% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 278%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Bolivia (X tons) was the main destination for artificial and colloidal graphite exports from Peru, accounting for a 91% share of total exports. Moreover, artificial and colloidal graphite exports to Bolivia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ecuador (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Bolivia totaled +74.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (+6.4% per year) and Colombia (+4.7% per year).
In value terms, Bolivia ($X) remains the key foreign market for artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations exports from Peru, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ecuador ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Bolivia totaled +47.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (+1.9% per year) and Colombia (-3.3% per year).

In 2021, the average artificial and colloidal graphite export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -24.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ecuador (-4.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Peru
In 2021, supplies from abroad of artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. In general, total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of artificial and colloidal graphite imports to Peru, together comprising 75% of total imports. These countries were followed by Canada, Ecuador, Malaysia and Colombia, which together accounted for a further 18%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Colombia (with a CAGR of +75.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest artificial and colloidal graphite suppliers to Peru were China ($X), the United States ($X) and Brazil ($X), together accounting for 62% of total imports. These countries were followed by Canada, Ecuador, Malaysia and Colombia, which together accounted for a further 12%.
Among the main suppliers, Colombia, with a CAGR of +175.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average artificial and colloidal graphite import price amounted to $X per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 23%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+57.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
