Beer Market Size in Peru

The Peruvian beer market fell to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -6.2% against the previous year. In general, the total consumption indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +7.1% against 2020 indices. Beer consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Beer Production in Peru

In value terms, beer production shrank to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +6.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Peru

In 2022, shipments abroad of beer was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, saw a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 124%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, beer exports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 90% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Chile (X tons) was the main destination for beer exports from Peru, with a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, beer exports to Chile exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), eightfold. Brazil (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Chile amounted to +10.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-1.7% per year) and Brazil (+107.6% per year).

In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the key foreign market for beer exports from Peru, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 7.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 4.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Chile totaled +15.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-3.2% per year) and Spain (+9.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average beer export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -2.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 17% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to the UK ($X per ton) and Chile ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) and Brazil ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Peru

In 2022, approx. X tons of beer were imported into Peru; declining by -18.6% against 2021. In general, imports, however, enjoyed mild growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 59%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, beer imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Mexico (X tons) constituted the largest beer supplier to Peru, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, beer imports from Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United States (X tons), with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Mexico totaled +22.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+10.6% per year) and the United States (-4.2% per year).

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constituted the largest supplier of beer to Peru, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 3.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Mexico amounted to +28.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+7.9% per year) and the United States (-6.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average beer import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 4.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 42%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
