In 2022, the Peruvian blueberry and cranberry market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 257%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, blueberry and cranberry exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 221%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for blueberry and cranberry exports from Peru, accounting for a 57% share of total exports. Moreover, blueberry and cranberry exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), threefold. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States amounted to +97.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+88.9% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+66.1% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for blueberries and cranberries exports from Peru, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to +74.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+66.9% per year) and the UK (+58.6% per year).

In 2022, the average blueberry and cranberry export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 2.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. Imports into Peru

Blueberry and cranberry imports into Peru declined rapidly to X tons in 2022, reducing by -23.8% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, saw notable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 186%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, blueberry and cranberry imports fell significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 120% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest blueberry and cranberry supplier to Peru, with a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, blueberry and cranberry imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Chile (X kg), threefold.
