In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in the Peruvian broom, brush, and mop market, when its value decreased by -10.2% to $X. In general, the total consumption indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +82.4% against 2015 indices. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Broom, brush, and mop exports from Peru fell to X units in 2022, dropping by -11.4% on the year before. In general, exports, however, saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 101%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop exports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 96%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.

Chile (X units), Bolivia (X units) and Ecuador (X units) were the main destinations of broom, brush, and mop exports from Peru, together accounting for 90% of total exports. Honduras, Uruguay and Colombia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7.1%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Honduras (with a CAGR of +31.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X), Bolivia ($X) and Ecuador ($X) were the largest markets for broom, brush, and mop exported from Peru worldwide, together accounting for 89% of total exports.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 55%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Colombia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Peru

In 2022, the amount of brooms, brushes, and mops imported into Peru reduced to X units, falling by -8.2% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 54%. Imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +85.4% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest broom, brush, and mop supplier to Peru, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, broom, brush, and mop imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (X units), with a 3.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +1.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+17.9% per year) and India (+46.1% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of brooms, brushes, and mops to Peru, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 6.8% share.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous year.
