Trailer And Semi-Trailer Market Size in Peru

In 2022, the Peruvian trailer and semi-trailer market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced decline. Trailer and semi-trailer exports from Peru contracted sharply to X units in 2022, which is down by -36.5% compared with 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 320%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted temperate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 370% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Ecuador (X units), Panama (X units) and Chile (X units) were the main destinations of trailer and semi-trailer exports from Peru, together comprising 77% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Panama (with a CAGR of +30.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for trailer and semi-trailer exported from Peru were Ecuador ($X), Colombia ($X) and Chile ($X), together comprising 66% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Ecuador, with a CAGR of +37.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average trailer and semi-trailer export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 187% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Panama ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+31.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Peru

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of cargo trailers and semi-trailers, when their volume increased by 28% to X units. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 58% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 21%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Germany (X units), Spain (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) were the main suppliers of trailer and semi-trailer imports to Peru, with a combined 36% share of total imports. Poland, the United States, Belgium, Mexico, Italy, China, India, Ecuador, France and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +196.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cargo trailers and semi-trailers to Peru, comprising 20% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 5.8% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany stood at +3.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-17.3% per year) and China (-2.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average trailer and semi-trailer import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -22.1% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, trailer and semi-trailer import price increased by +53.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 91%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while the price for India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
