In value terms, chili and pepper exports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 96% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of chili and pepper exports from Peru, together accounting for 53% of total exports. Chile, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

Imports into Peru

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of chilies and peppers (green) decreased by -4.1% to X kg in 2022. Overall, imports showed a significant decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chili and pepper imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a sharp descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 125% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
