After six years of growth, the Peruvian shaft coupling market decreased by -10.3% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

In 2022, exports of clutches and shaft couplings from Peru reduced to X tons, with a decrease of -7.3% against 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, shaft coupling exports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Chile (X tons) was the main destination for shaft coupling exports from Peru, accounting for a 47% share of total exports. Moreover, shaft coupling exports to Chile exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Colombia (X tons), threefold. The United States (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Chile stood at +46.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (-16.0% per year) and the United States (-4.2% per year).

In value terms, Chile ($X), the United States ($X) and Bolivia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for shaft coupling exported from Peru worldwide, with a combined 66% share of total exports.

Chile, with a CAGR of +41.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average shaft coupling export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 6.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 27%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ecuador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Peru

After six years of growth, purchases abroad of clutches and shaft couplings decreased by -11% to X tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +112.9% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 36%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, shaft coupling imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of shaft coupling imports to Peru, together accounting for 70% of total imports. Brazil, South Korea, Italy and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +12.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and China ($X) constituted the largest shaft coupling suppliers to Peru, together accounting for 70% of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
